Activated Sludge Microecology

Activated Sludge Microecology

Activated sludge is a general term for microbial communities and the organic and inorganic substances to which they are attached. It is mainly used for wastewater treatment. The activated sludge method is a kind of aerobic treatment method that uses suspended microbial flocs to treat organic sewage. The complex microbes in the activated sludge and the organic nutrients in the wastewater form a complex food chain, in which microbes are mainly composed of bacteria. The bacteria mainly include micellar bacteria and filamentous bacteria, they play the most important role in the treatment of organic wastewater. In addition, there are micro-animals such as protozoa and metazoa in the activated sludge, and they are called indicator organisms in the activated sludge system. The quality of the treated water is related to the type, quantity and activity of the microbes which constitute the activated sludge.

Sample Type and Detection Type

  • The sample type is the original sample of sewage.
  • The requirements of DNA sample: total DNA ≥ 300ng, DNA concentration ≥ 10ng/μL, OD260/280 = 1.8 - 2.0.
  • The detection types are bacteria, fungi, viruses, etc.

What Can We Offer?

Creative Biogene uses high-throughput sequencing, PCR-DGGE, real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR and other methods to sequence DNA in samples. Through statistical and bioinformatics analysis, a large amount of data is processed to reveal the types of microbes in activated sludge and their relative abundance, explore microbial diversity, and study the correlation between activated sludge microbes and the environment.

The specific service content includes the following aspects, microbial isolation & cultivation, microbial identification, microbial sequencing, microbial proteomics, microbial metabonomics and bioinformatics analysis.
