Shannon Diversity Index is also called Shannon-Wiener Index, which reflects the level of microbial diversity in a sample or community. The microbial diversity index of each sample's sequencing amount at different sequencing depths is used to construct a curve to reflect the microbial diversity of each sample at different sequencing amounts. When the curve tends to be flat, it indicates that the sequencing data volume is large enough to reflect most of the microbial information in the sample.

The formula for Shannon diversity index is, H= - ∑(Pi×lnPi). Among them, Pi represents the proportion of the total sample represented by species. In the diversity index, there are two components, the number of species and the evenness of individual distribution among various species. Among the species, the more uniform the individual distribution, the greater the diversity index. If each individual belongs to a different species, the diversity index is the greatest. If every individual belongs to the same species, its diversity index is the smallest.
