GC-MS Detection

GC-MS

Mass spectrometry is an analytical method of measuring the charge-to-mass ratio of ions. Its basic principle is to ionize each component in the sample in the ion source to generate positively charged ions with different charge-to-mass ratios. After the action of the accelerating electric field, the ion beam is formed and enters the mass analyzer. In the mass analyzer, the electric and the magnetic field are used to make the opposite velocity dispersion, and they are respectively focused to obtain a mass spectrum to determine its mass.

GC-MS refers to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. When multi-component mixed samples enter the chromatographic column, the operation speed of each component in the column will be different after a certain period of time due to the adsorbent's different adsorption capacity on each component. The components with weak adsorption capacity are easily desorbed and leave the column first to enter the detector, while the components with the strongest adsorption capacity leave the column last. In this way, the components can be separated from each other in the chromatographic column, and sequentially enter into the detector to be detected and recorded.

Application of GC-MS Detection

GC-MS is a method that combines the characteristics of gas chromatography and mass spectrometry to identify different substances in samples. It has the traits of mature and stable technology and high resolution. At the same time, due to its relatively complete database, its qualitative effect is also good. GC-MS is mainly used in many fields such as industrial inspection, food safety, environmental protection, and medical health.
